I enjoy Lorelei King performing these books. She has the right tone, doesn't try to overdramatize.
I enjoy the series...but--and it's a big but-- I am sensing a shift.
In this book, things are moving along and BAM, info dump of prequel world building that was a bit jarring. A definite "As you know, Bob," moment.
I also had the feeling the whole novel was filled with sequel bait. Yeah, things happened, things got resolved; but I didn't feel the series was moved along much at all. There were situations that were presented, Charley ignored them; and then lo' and behold, the situations resolved.
If I had been reading this as opposed to listening to it, I don't know that I would have enjoyed it as much. In retrospect, I wonder if I would have finished it.
But I did finish it, I eagerly await No. 5 to see what Ms. Jones is going to reap from all those seeds she placed in this volume.
